Prayer is a lifestyle
“Brothers and sisters, in light of all I have shared with you about God’s mercies, I urge you to offer your bodies as a living and holy sacrifice to God, a sacred offering that brings Him pleasure; this is your reasonable, essential worship” (Romans 12:1).
Paul is pleading with us to present our bodies as an offering to God “as a living and holy sacrifice.” “A living and holy sacrifice.” I am going to repeat this again: Paul urges us to present our bodies as “a living and holy sacrifice.”
Who is the “us” that is being referred to in this passage? The “us” that is being referred to in this Scripture represents you and me. Since God came from heaven in the form of His Son, Jesus the Christ, and offered Himself as a “living sacrifice that was holy and acceptable unto God, then how much more should we offer ourselves “as a living sacrifice” by dying daily to self.
God commanded us in Leviticus 19:2 to:
And in 1 Peter 1:13-16 Peter admonishes us to “get yourselves ready, prepare your minds to act, control yourselves, and look forward in hope as you focus on the grace that comes when Jesus the Anointed returns and is completely revealed to you.
We are to “be like obedient children as you put aside the desires you used to pursue when you didn’t know better.” But “Since the One who called you is holy, be holy in all you do. For the Scripture says, “You are to be holy, for I am holy,” says the Lord.
The highway called “Holiness”
Isaiah in Isaiah 35:8 describes a highway that is called “Holiness” as a place where …”People will declare the way itself to be holy—the route, “sacred.” And “only those who are right with God will be able to walk its pleasant path …”
Only those in right standing with God will be able to walk upon this highway called “Holiness.”
But is such a life possible, and if so, how can we accomplish living in a manner that will be pleasing to God. Let us be like the Bereans who searched out the matter according to Scripture to see if these things be so (See Acts 17:10-12). Selah 🙂
