Mothers are unique and have a special calling on their lives, and in a sense spiritually said to their future as mothers that I will have children to “have and to hold, to love and cherish, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health until…
Mothers have –
M – Maternal instincts to nourish and protect their family in the good times, in the bad times until…, for her
O – Objective is to raise, not to clone, another human being who she sees as having their own unique personality traits as she
T – Takes the time to stop and listen, for by wisdom she sees to the needs and wants of the family, and as she
H – Honors and thanks the Lord for the gift of children, the Lord will honor her role as the mother of her children, and although
E – Equality is not an issue with her, she knows her position as a mother is unique in Christ, so she will
R – Respectfully honor her husband as having spiritual authority in the home, but since she humbles herself by
S – Submitting to the Lord, then the Spirit grants her the right to respectfully agree to disagree in love with her husband… As a wife is expected to respect her own husband, so should the husband respect, love and cherish his wife who is the mother of his children (Ephesians 5:33).
And just as we do not have many fathers in the faith, so the same can be said in regards to the mothers who are in the faith … (1 Corinthians 4:15)
Regarding mothers in the faith, please turn with me to Titus 2:3-5 –
5 control themselves in every way and to be pure. Train them to manage the household, to be kind, and to be submissive to their husbands, all of which honor the word of God.
But in saying all this, do we need to actually have children to accomplish what Titus 2:3-5 is talking about, the answer is no, and hence this is where spiritual motherhood comes into place.

John MacArthur –
Older women should teach younger women the skills and disciplines needed to have a successful home and marriage. Experienced wives and mothers will find their greatest avenue of ministry in teaching younger wives what they need to know to be effective wives, mothers, and homemakers.
Concerning godly attributes and characteristics of a God-fearing woman it is written that she is:
Gracious and honorable
Proverbs 16:11a – A gracious woman acquires honor,
That she is –
Wise – Proverbs 14:1a – A wise woman builds her house,
That she is –
Kindhearted and generous – In Proverbs 31:20, 23, 25-29 it speaks of her as:
…Reaching out to the poor and extends mercy to those in need. Everyone recognizes her husband in the public square, and no one fails to respect him as he takes his place of leadership in the community.
In verses 25-29 it says she is:
26 She conducts her conversations with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is ever her concern.
29 “There are some—indeed many—women who do well in every way, but of all of them only you are truly excellent.”
But above all in Proverbs 31:30b it says of you today that because you are a mother who reveres and respects your God, then you as a godly mother should be honored, respected, and praised above all others.
For surely a God-fearing mother shall be known by her fruits (Matthew 7:15-20).
– Happy Mother’s Day!
